Swansea earthquake detected at Altcom Penzance office

Altcom detected the 17 February 2018 Magnitude 4 Swansea Earthquake at its Penzance offices using the microseisgram software connected to a Raspberry Shake 3D personal seismograph.

Altcom is currently evaluating the Shake 3D that is deployed in the basement of its offices in Penzance, Cornwall, UK. The data is being acquired via a SEEDlink feed into the data acquisition module of the Altcom software microseisgram.

Despite the significant distance from Swansea, and the fairly noisy town environment, this experimental monitoring system was able to detect and capture the signals from the earthquake

The British Geological Survey (BGS) report that this is the largest earthquake on mainland Britain in almost 10 years, since the magnitude 5.2 ML Market Rasen earthquake on 27 February 2008.
